The Batey Children's Fund is an educational scholarship fund for Haitian refugees in the Dominican Republic.

Welcome to the Batey Fund

Originally constructed as labor camps for the growing sugar cane industry, bateyes (pronounced Buh-TAYE) are rudimentary settlements where thousands of Haitian families live. The children who benefit from the Batey Fund could not otherwise attend school. Although some bateyes do have schools, they are overcrowded and lack basic resources. Moreover, attending a school outside of the batey requires travel and tuition costs, which most batey families cannot afford.

Promoting education as a means to break the cycle of poverty, the Batey Children's Fund (BCF) provides tuition, uniforms, books, shoes, school supplies, exam fees and transportation for scholarship recipients to attend a private school beyond the batey.

The Batey Fund represents an opportunity for batey children to earn an education comparable to that of their Dominican peers and helps provide equal access to education for our children.
